2/13/2012 City Commission Hearing Outcome PDF Print E-mail

February 14, 2012

Dear Harbour Towne Condominium Co-Owners:

A special thanks to all the Harbour Towne Condominium co-owners who were able to attend the Muskegon City Commission Meeting (2/13) on such short notice. The commission chambers were filled to capacity and clearly sent a silent and verbal message to all City Commissioners and the two presenters from Mart Dock that the public attending were not supportive of moving Fisherman's Landing to adjacent lands at Harbour Towne Condominiums.

The City Commission stressed that this meeting was purely to listen to a proposal from Mart Dock to be allowed to swap a portion of Pigeon Hill property (owned by the McKee family) for Fisherman's Landing (owned by the City of Muskegon) and to relocate Fisherman's Landing to Pigeon Hill. The City did not solicit this action and was merely providing a forum for discussion by Mart Dock Representatives.

Following the Mart Dock brief presentation the City specifically solicited input from neighboring interest (Fisherman's Landing, Harbour Towne Condominiums Association, both bordering Marina(s) and the Bluffton, Beachwood neighbors). All persons responding gave similar opinions:

... All were very supportive of Fisherman's Landing as a valuable community resource, but felt it strategically best served the community at its present location.

... The Mart Dock's proposal of wanting to obtain Fisherman's Landing did not have to include moving this enterprise to Pigeon Hill property. The two items could be treated mutually exclusive.

... Relocating Fisherman's Landing to Harbour Towne (with all of the transient trailer and boat traffic) would add to an already heavy vehicle and boat use in the area and create added safety issues.

... All responders realized that the remaining Pigeon Hill property will someday be developed and were not opposed to that premise.

... All surrounding Pigeon Hill property owners have a strong vested interest in how the remaining property is developed. They would prefer to work with McKee representatives to support a land use that will be compatible and supportive to needs of all neighbors and the community at large.

Due to McKee's recent attempt to market the remains of Pigeon Hill property, your Association Board will schedule a meeting with the following neighboring groups to determine if we have similar concerns regarding possible future McKee proposals. Individually... we need to establish and disseminate information to our respective constituencies in a relative short period of time and determine if we are supportive of each other's opinions. The groups that we will be meeting with in alphabetical order are:

... Bluffton/Beachwood Neighborhood Association

... Dockers (Harris Hospitality Group)

... Harbour Towne Marina

... Pigeon Key Marina

After meeting with the above groups we will meet with the Department of Community and Economic Development (including Zoning) to convey our opinions.

We are fairly confident that Mart Dock's proposal will not be given further consideration.

If anyone has any additional comments or suggestion, please feel free to contact any Association Board Member preferably by email.

Thank You!

Your Harbour Towne Condominium Association Board

Holiday Get Together 2011 Recap PDF Print E-mail

The Harbour Towne Holiday Get Together was held on December 13th and attended by 40 condo owners.  A fun time was had by all!  It was held for the first time at the Submarine Museum.  A great place to hold a party. There was plenty of room and it was decorated with many donated Christmas items for the night.  The food was wonderful as was the company of new and current friends.

Thank you to Nancy Siminski and Deb Arnold for all of their help to make this evening possible.

Look for news regarding our upcoming Summer Party!

Landscaping Update (2011-07-29) PDF Print E-mail

Jenelle White (Quality Landscape Supervisor) provided the following information to the HTC Board on July 29...

The chemically burnt lawns are starting to show some improvement and a lot of the areas are starting to regenerate. Unfortunately due to the wet weather, crab grass is creeping into some of these areas. We will be attempting to apply a crabgrass formula to these areas when the weather cools and it is less humid. Grass areas that do not regenerate by the fall will be raked and re-seeded.
